What is the API.Bible service?

API.Bible is a REST-based API (Application Programming Interface) that enables  developers, ministries, and organizations to integrate Scripture into their applications, websites, and other digital tools. It is a digital service provided by American Bible Society (ABS).

API.Bible delivers biblical content in a consistent JSON format and supports a wide range of Bible translations and languages. Both text and audio Scripture content are available.

You can view the current list of available Bibles here: https://api.bible/bibles

Why use API.Bible?

When building a Bible app or Scripture-based website, one of the biggest challenges is licensing. Many Bible translations are copyrighted, and securing permission typically requires contacting individual publishers or intellectual property holders.

API.Bible simplifies this process by providing express licensing to access approved Bible texts and audio content. This allows you to focus on building your product while ensuring your use of Scripture content is properly licensed and compliant.
