How to Access Bible Translations on API.Bible

API.Bible offers hundreds of Bible translations. Access to each translation depends on its licensing requirements and the plan connected to your app. This article explains how to browse available content, what the different access categories mean, and how to request access to translations that require additional steps.

Browse Available Translations

Visit the Bibles page to browse all available translations. You can filter by language, license type, and other criteria to find content that fits your needs.

Access Categories

Translations on API.Bible fall into three license categories:

  • Open Access (Public Domain & Creative Commons): Available to all apps, including those on the Starter plan. No additional licensing is required. These translations are accessible as soon as your app is active.
  • Standard License (Copyrighted Bibles): Available through Starter and Pro plans. Starter apps can access up to three copyrighted translations. Pro plan apps can add copyrighted translations as needed, with each translation licensed separately. Add them from the Plan tab in your Dashboard.

  • Unique License: Some translations require a direct license agreement with the rights holder and are not available through a self-service subscription. To explore access to these translations, contact support@api.bible and include the name of the translation you are interested in. Our team will review the request and help determine whether licensing options are available through the translation's rights holder.
