Linking a Plan to an App

In API.Bible, every application you build needs a plan linked to it before it can make API calls. Plans are linked to individual apps, not to your account. Each app has its own subscription, billing cycle, API key, and usage limits. This article explains how plan linking works and what to expect during and after the process.

How Plans Get Linked to Apps

When you create an app, you'll choose a plan during checkout. After checkout is completed successfully, that plan becomes linked to the app. Once payment is confirmed, the subscription is activated and an API key is generated for that app.

During the signup flow, you also have the option to add Bible licenses alongside your plan selection. Bible licenses are added as line items on that app's subscription, allowing everything to be billed together.

Available Plans

API.Bible currently offers two self-service plans:

Enterprise Plans

Custom plans are available for high-volume applications. Contact support@api.bible with the subject line "Custom Plan Inquiry" to discuss options with our team.

What Happens After You Subscribe

Once your subscription is confirmed, your app's status moves from Pending Payment to Active, and your API key becomes live.

  • You can find your API key in the top section of your app's Dashboard.
  • If payment does not go through, your app stays in a Pending Payment state and the key remains inactive. If this happens, update or verify your payment method and retry checkout, or reach out to support@api.bible.

Managing Linked Plans

Adding a Plan to an Additional App

For additional applications, the workflow is the same: create the app, select a plan, and complete the checkout process. Each app's subscription behaves independently of any others on your account.

Changing Your Plan After Linking

Once a plan is linked, you can upgrade or downgrade it at any time:

  1. Open the app selector drop-down at the top of your Dashboard and choose the app you want to modify.
  2. Click on the Plan tab.
  3. Choose a different plan or update the Bible licenses associated with that app.

Billing Adjustments: Upgrades take effect immediately with a prorated charge applied to your payment method. Downgrades take effect at the start of your next billing cycle. See How Billing Works After Subscription Changes for details.
