Managing Apps

In API.Bible, each application you build is registered as its own app, with its own subscription, plan, billing cycle, API key, and usage tracking. Your account can hold multiple apps, and each one is fully independent. This article explains how to navigate your apps and what each section of the Dashboard contains.

Switching Between Apps

Use the app selector dropdown at the top of the Dashboard to switch between apps. Everything shown throughout the app—including usage, plan details, and settings—updates to reflect the currently selected app.

Dashboard Overview: The Three Tabs

Each app's Dashboard is organized into three tabs: Dashboard, Plan, and Settings. Your API endpoint and API key are visible in the header across all three tabs.

1. Dashboard Tab

The Dashboard tab gives you an at-a-glance view of your app's current usage and status:

  • Plan card: Displays your current plan name and includes an Upgrade Plan button if you are on the Starter plan.
  • API Calls card: Shows how many API calls you've used during the current billing period compared to your plan limit.
  • Usage Resets card: Shows the date your API call usage resets for the next billing period.

2. Plan Tab

The Plan tab is your main subscription and licensing interface. From here you can:

  • Edit Billing Info: Update your payment details.
  • Edit Plan: Upgrade or downgrade your plan, and add or remove Bible licenses.
  • Cancel Plan: Cancel your subscription at the end of the current billing cycle.

Note: Adding Bible licenses takes effect immediately. Removing Bible licenses remains effective until the end of your current billing period. See How Billing Works After Subscription Changes for details.

3. Settings Tab

The Settings tab contains your app's profile information — the details you provided when setting up the app, such as its name, description, application type, category, target audience, purpose, store listing locations, and logo. Keeping this information accurate is important because it helps API.Bible meet publisher licensing requirements. Inaccurate or incomplete app information may result in restricted access to licensed Bible content.

The Settings tab also includes the Delete App option. This is different from canceling your plan — deleting an app immediately and permanently deletes the app and revokes its API access and cannot be undone. See What Happens if I Cancel My Plan? for the distinction between canceling a plan and deleting an app.

API Key Security & Lifecycle

Each app has a unique API key that authenticates its requests to the API. It is displayed in the header of your Dashboard and accessible via the Options menu next to it.

⚠️ Security Warning: Keep your key secure. Do not share it publicly, commit it to open repositories, or embed it in client-side code where it can be exposed. If you believe your API key has been compromised, contact support@api.bible so we can help secure your account.

Subscription Statuses

Your app's subscription status determines whether your API key is authorized to process requests:

  • Active: Your subscription is in good standing, your key is live, and API calls will process normally.
  • Inactive statuses: statuses such as Unpaid, Suspended, or Canceled (or any other non-active status) will disable your API key and block incoming requests.
