What to Do if You Were Charged Unexpectedly
If you're unsure why an API.Bible charge appeared on your billing statement or credit card statement, this article explains the common causes and how to investigate them.
Common causes of unexpected charges
Overage fees
Overage fees only apply to Pro plans with Overage Protection enabled. If you have overage protection enabled on your Pro plan, API calls beyond your monthly limit are billed at $1 per 1,000 additional calls. Overage is calculated at the end of your billing period and added to your next invoice. If your usage spiked unexpectedly — due to increased traffic or a misconfigured integration — this can result in a larger-than-expected charge. See Overage Protection for details on how to monitor and control overage.
Proration on a plan upgrade or license addition
When you upgrade your plan or add a Bible license mid-cycle, you are charged a prorated amount immediately — covering the remaining days in the current billing period. If you made a plan or license change recently, this is likely what you're seeing. See How Billing Works After Subscription Changes for a full explanation.
Monthly subscription renewal
API.Bible subscriptions renew automatically each month on the same date you originally subscribed. If you weren't expecting the charge, check the Monthly API Calls card on your Dashboard to confirm your renewal date.
Licensing renewals
Bible licenses are billed as part of your subscription and renew monthly. If you've added one or more Bible licenses to your subscription, those licenses renew monthly until you remove them. You can review and manage your licenses from the Plan tab of your Dashboard.
