Renewals & Expirations

API.Bible subscriptions renew automatically each billing period, so in most cases you do not need to take any action to keep your access active. This article explains what happens at renewal, what can cause a renewal to fail, and what to do if it does.

How Automatic Renewal Works

Your subscription renews on the same date each month — the anniversary of the day you first subscribed. At the start of each new billing period:

  • Your monthly API call counter resets to zero.
  • Any overage charges from the previous period are calculated and added to your invoice.
  • Your payment method on file is charged for the new period.
  • Bible license add-ons renew automatically as part of your subscription, unless you removed them before the renewal date.

If everything goes smoothly, your subscription stays Active and your API access continues without interruption.

What Happens if a Renewal Payment Fails

If your payment method cannot be charged at renewal, your subscription status will change and your API access will be affected:

  • Pending Payment — the renewal charge has been initiated but has not yet been confirmed. Your subscription is in the process of renewing.
  • Unpaid — the payment attempt failed or the invoice was not paid within the applicable grace period.

To resolve this, open your Dashboard, go to the Settings tab, update your payment method, and retry the payment. Once payment is confirmed, your subscription will return to Active and API access will be restored.

Canceled Subscriptions Do Not Renew

If you cancel your subscription, it will remain active through the end of the current billing period and then expire. Once a subscription reaches the end of its billing period after cancellation, it expires and no longer renews automatically. To continue using API.Bible, you will need to subscribe again. See What Happens if I Cancel My Plan? for details.

Important: Upon deactivation or expiration of your subscription, licensed API.Bible content must be removed from your applications within 72 hours, in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.

Keeping Your Subscription Active

The most common cause of failed renewals is an expired or outdated payment method. To avoid interruptions, keep your payment method current in the Settings tab of your Dashboard. You can update it at any time before your next renewal date.
